Chippen Zhao, is Director of Medical Excellence at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. In this role, he has enabled Medical Affairs to strengthen data-driven decision-making, improve stakeholder engagement effectiveness, and build capabilities across people, processes, systems, tools, and metrics while improving operational excellence. As a strategist with expertise in the Medical Excellence framework, he refines and operationalizes medical affairs strategy through a structured, data-informed approach, ensuring that scientific innovation delivers measurable patient impact and organizational value. Chippen trained in clinical medicine, public health, and health economics, and has extensive experience integrating emerging real world data assets, advanced analytics, social science methods, and artificial intelligence into Medical Affairs operations. His career spans medical affairs, real-world evidence, clinical operations, and public health research, including prior roles at IQVIA, the CDC, and Emory Oncology Clinic. He has a strong passion for advancing health equity and has led numerous projects in partnership with academic, industry, and public health organizations.
