Bio:

Chris Pernie joined Novo Nordisk in March 2021 and serves as Vice President of Public Affairs, leading the company’s Washington, D.C., office. In this role, he advances Novo Nordisk’s policy and public affairs priorities, managing engagement at the federal and state levels with elected officials, regulators, policymakers, think tanks, and stakeholder organizations.  Chris also led efforts to expand access to newly approved obesity medicines and helped prepare the company’s CEO for congressional testimony.

Before joining Novo Nordisk, Chris spent 17 years at Bristol Myers Squibb, where he led federal policy and government affairs. During that time, he helped oversee one of the largest pharmaceutical acquisitions in history, managed congressional hearings, and supported the company’s CEO during his tenure as chair of PhRMA, the pharmaceutical industry’s national trade association.

Chris began his career on Capitol Hill, working on House Energy and Commerce Committee issues from 1998 to 2004. During that period, Congress advanced several major health policy measures, including creation of the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit, Medicare modernization legislation, reauthorization of the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA), and the Ryan White CARE Act, which expanded HIV/AIDS care and support programs.

A native of Philadelphia, Chris resides in Bethesda, Maryland where he and his wife have four children.
