Bio:
Marisa Borgasano is Senior Director, Serious Mental Illness and Addiction Communications and Advocacy at Alkermes, Inc., a global biopharmaceutical company that applies deep neuroscience expertise to develop medicines that help people living with complex and difficult-to-treat psychiatric and neurological disorders. She has more than two decades of experience in healthcare PR helping biopharmaceutical, medical device and cnsumer health organizations raise disease state awareness, capture share of voice, and amplify the authentic voices of patient and caregiver lived experience.
Since joining Alkermes in 2018, Marisa has held several roles of increasing responsibility within Corporate Affairs, Today, she oversees the strategic development and execution of communications activities designed to increase visibility for the the company’s commercial products across earned, paid and organic channels. This work includes branded and unbranded media relations, patient ambasssdaor and social influencer programs, and content-driven campaigns. Marisa is also responsbile for Alkermes’ patient engagement and advocacy work, which is core to the company’s mission. In this role she has built strong, long-standing relationships with patient advocates and patient advocacy organizations in the serious mental illness and substance use communities, working with them to raise awareness of patient need, advance patient-centered drug development, and increase access to medicines and other forms of treatment that support health and well-being for people living with these conditions.
Prior to Alkermes, Marisa grew her career at Schwartz Communications, an indpendent PR agency later acquired by MSLGROUP, a global public relations and integrated communications company. During her agency tenure, Marisa worked with organizations across healthcare, technology, professional services and consumer industries and led MSL Boston’s award-winning Event PR Practice. Her work has received a number of the PR industry’s most prestigious national and regional awards, including Silver and Bronze Anvils, SABRE Awards, and Bell Ringer awards from the Publicity Club of New England, including a Platinum Super Bell for healthcare launch campaign.
Marisa is a graduate of Bowdoin College with a B.A. in Sociology and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She lives outside Boston with her husband, two sons and her goldendoodle Lucky.
