Robert Thompson

Bio:

Robert Thompson is the Associate Director for Global Security and Crisis Communications where he oversees AbbVie’s crisis communications enterprise, acts as the lead communicator for AbbVie’s Vice President for Global Security, and leads AbbVie’s social media, deep web, and dark web executive threat monitoring program.

Prior to AbbVie, Robert has 15 years of experience in policy and strategy development, crisis preparation and response, and messaging with roles at the White House, State Department, Defense Department, U.S. Mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and on domestic political campaigns.

His career has spanned a wide range of areas focused on preparing for and responding to crises, including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents; climate disasters; the U.S. and NATO’s response to Russia’s invasions of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022; the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Syria; as well as roles managing United Nations-authorized international force deployments to Haiti, Libya, and Afghanistan.

Over the course of his federal career, he also led legal compliance, international engagement, and communications efforts that documented Russian violations of multiple international arms control treaties.

Robert holds a Master’s degree in European and Eurasian Studies from The George Washington University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
